A VERY SHORT POST ABOUT THIEVERY AND ART

So, I started with this:

And now I’ve got this:

I consider the painting to be about 92 percent complete. There’s something still missing, though I’m not sure exactly what. The text within each state I’ll reproduce here soonish, but not right now. I’ll give away the title, though, which is in the floating ribbon near the top of the left panel:

“THE WORLD AS IT HAS BEEN

AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN

ANNO DOMINI MMIX”

Now, on to thievery.

I’m fairly certain that my landlady showed up with bolt cutters today and stole my neighbor’s bicycle. She’s been fussing about our bikes being locked up to the balconies and staircases for a while now, most recently because of a fire inspection. But this bike wasn’t really in the way. It belongs to my upstairs neighbor, who is rarely home, and who is also not home currently so I can’t rush over and say, “Oh hey I think our landlady chopped your cable lock and ran off with your bike” or I would. I almost want to take a picture of the sad little cut cable that is still hanging on the post, but that feels somewhat anti-climactic.

I also heard her (the landlady) rattling my bicycle, which is locked up to my porch, perhaps in order to test whether or not she could make off with it. I use a U-lock, so she was not able to snip through it. I’ve brought it inside anyway, and am fuming that now she’s “won” by forcing us all to bring our bikes inside for fear that OUR LANDLADY WILL STEAL THEM.

(Strange however is that she didn’t leave a note, as she usually does when she steals our property.)

I have to issue a correction. Evidently my landlady did not steal the bicycle (which explains the lack of note). An actual thief stole it. However, the fact that I immediately suspected my landlady of such an act is indicative of my high regard for her. Namely, I think she’s crazy, and entirely capable of such scheming. Anyhoo, in order to avoid a charge of slander:

Dear Anonymous Landlady, I retract my accusation of thievery. However I stand by my opinion that you’re nuts.
